Social Media Trend Causing Vandalism at Schools

Recently there has been increased incidents of vandalism at YES Prep Southwest and across the country. At Southwest, there have been thefts and damage to soap dispensers in the restrooms as well as other acts of vandalism. These incidents seem to be related to a trend on social media called "devious licks," where students steal objects from school or vandalize school property and post what they've stolen or broken on social media.

At Southwest, we have spoken about this to students and encouraged them to be respectful and kind. We've also assigned consequences to students who we have caught vandalizing school property as well as increasing supervision near the restrooms. We urge families to talk to their children about this and to encourage them to make good choices while at school and to report any vandalism or theft to a trusted adult either at school or at home. If your student reports anything they've seen to you, please reach out to Mr. Madson, Ms. Wimbley, or Ms. Thompson. Together, we can keep Southwest a safe and positive school for everybody!

Arrival and Dismissal
No Drop Offs or Pick Ups on Anderson Rd.

Please do not drop off or pick up students on Anderson Rd. This is unsafe and holds up traffic flow. We have plenty of space in our parking lot, so please utilize either entry gate to drop off or pick up students.

No Food Drop Off

In order to maintain student healthy meals we encourage students to participate in the school free lunch program. If they wish to not to participate, students can bring their own lunch. We will not allow food drop off. Front office doesn’t have the capacity to receive and deliver food to students. Student may not order food via UberEats.

6th Grade Families

Welcome to the Maverick Family! We have a tradition here at YES Prep Southwest of visiting with every single new family at the beginning of the year to get to know you better. We also use the visit as a time to share our school values with you and your family, and to answer any questions you may have about our school. As we are facing the pandemic, we want to be sensitive to the needs of your family. Please complete the survey below to let us know what type of visit you would prefer: in home, at school or virtual. Once we have your response, a staff member will reach out to you to schedule a time to meet.

Questions? Reach out to Ms. Wimbley, Middle School Dean of Students: laureen.wimbley@yesprep.org | 713-553-9271
